Singing the Blues Vocal Camp Performances
Calgary Midwinter Bluesfest 2017 features the 11th annual Singing the Blues Vocal Camp, a two-part workshop for local blues singers of all skill levels, who will receive instruction from a professional vocalist and perform with a live band before an audience of family, friends, and new-found fans!
Monday evening, February 27th, aspiring singers will participate in a vocal class led by clinician and recording artist, Elsie Osborne
, where students will learn about mic technique, song forms, stage presence, vocal production and more.
Wednesday evening, March 1st, singers will perform live with the Debra Power
band. Performances will be critiqued by a panel of judges, who will offer expert advice and select one singer to go on to perform at Calgary International Blues Festival on Sunday, August 6th. Be sure to bring your family and friends out to cheer you and the other performers for these performances!
Singing the Blues Vocal Camp is open to singers of beginner and emerging artist skill levels who are 18 years & over. Enrolment is free, but class size is limited.
Please note you will be required to participate in the workshop on Monday, Feb. 27th and to perform 1-2 songs (blues standards only) in public with the Debra Power band on Tuesday, Feb. 28th. Those who fail to attend the workshop will be disqualified. If you'd like a list of Blues Standards, please let us know and we'll be happy to provide you with ideas.
Note: The summer festival performance will be with a band selected by the Artistic Director of Calgary Bluesfest.
