JOHN RUTHERFORD

During a now 40 year long career Calgary blues icon, John Rutherford shines bright on the local and western Canadian blues scene as an accomplished guitarist and a compelling songwriter.

Cutting his teeth in the early eighties as a “King Eddy brat” Rutherford learned at the feet of many of the great blues artists that passed through the legendary Calgary blues haunt.

Rutherford’s work over the decades has included touring and recording with numerous projects including The Hoodoo Sons, Highwater Jug Band, The Ronnie Hayward Trio and Dice Deluxe in addition to his own solo work.

He has been a long time collaborative member of the Front Porch Roots Revue touring company and was a troupe member of the first western Canadian tour of Anais Mitchel’s Tony Award winning folk opera Hadestown (singing the part of Hades).

The award winning guitarist released his most recent recording in the spring of this year. Entitled Midnight Microphone, the all original material has been getting airplay and reviews from far and wide soaring to the top of roots and blues music charts in Canada and around the world.
