Ferdi B, originally from Trinidad, is a first call keyboard man on the scene in western Canada. He has toured with Texas Blues legend Sonny Rhodes, performed the 2014 Calgary International Blues Festival with Texas Blues giant Andrew Jr. Boy Jones and in 2015, kicked off the Calgary International Blues Festival with his own band, the Ferdi B Blues Project. Ferdi B regularly tours with Grammy Award winner Donald Ray Johnson and his band as well as tours with B.B. King’s legendary alumni bassist Russell Jackson. He has performed with IBC winning Blues guitarist and singer, Tim Williams, Chicago Hall of Fame Bluesman, Maurice John Vaughn, and is a founding member of the Groove Crew.
Yuji Ihara is from Osaka, Japan, Yuji has been a passionate student and innovator of blues guitar music since the tender age of 16, when he experienced an “electric shock” while watching a documentary about Chicago Blues. This first taste of the likes of Muddy Waters, Otis Rush and Buddy Guy propelled Yuji forward into his formal studies at Yamaha Music College in Osaka, and into working as a professional musician in Japan before moving to Edmonton in 2005 to explore Canada’s blues scene. In 2007, the band Boogie Patrol was formed with Yuji on guitar and composing original music. To date the band has released 4 albums, been nominated for a Maple Blues Award and opened for Buddy Guy, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Big Brother and the Holding Company, and Paul James. Yuji has performed as a freelance guitarist and recorded with numerous and renowned musicians such as Lurrie Bell, Kenny “Blues Boss” Wayne, Sonny Rhodes, Donald Ray Johnson, Andrew “Jr. Boy” Jones, John Primer, Brandon Santini, Sam Cockrell and Russell Jackson. He has travelled throughout Canada and into the United States, playing at festivals such as the Saskatoon Jazz Festival, the Salmon Arm Roots and Blues Festival, and both Calgary and Edmonton’s Blues Festivals.
George Phillip, originally from Trinidad, is a consummate musician and one of Canada’s premier bassists. George has toured and played with such luminaries as Percy Sledge, Sam and Dave, Chuck Berry, Taj Mahal, Choker Campbell, Donald Ray Johnson, T.H.P. Orchestra and Maurice John Vaughn. George has toured Europe, Asia, North Africa and the Middle East, and has lent his talents to countless recordings. He is currently also a founding member of the Groove Crew.
The newest member of The Groove Crew is drummer, Ethan Harder. With a dynamic and crunchy style, Ethan has recorded and performed with The Grounds and The 427’s, two up an coming groups who quickly made their names on the local scene.
In 2018, The Groove Crew were semi-finalists at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee.
