One to Walk is a Canadian band formed by Tyler Casat, Amy Rutherford, Andrew Rutherford, and Shane McFarlane. The group met while studying music at Bishop’s University and spent their breaks between semesters touring in Southern Alberta to hone their skills. The group specializes in high energy live performances and are praised for their versatility (with members often switching instruments during songs and sets) and are likewise known for their impressive vocal harmony arrangements.
One to Walk has enjoyed the pleasure of playing everything from dive bars to sold out theatres, but admit that it’s not the venue that makes the show — rather, it’s the energy from the audience that finds its way into the soul of their playing. Having recently relocated to Calgary, they are thrilled at the opportunity to be a part of a festival with such immense roots in the Canadian blues scene and to share the stage with such respected artists.
For band leader Tyler Casat, playing YYC International Blues Festival holds a special place, as he is a relative of Ron Casat, a legend in the Calgary blues scene. Having never had the opportunity to meet Ron before his passing, the opportunity to step into a world in which he was so involved and respected is a moment of immense pride and gratitude for the 23 year old musician.
