He won the OC Music Awards Lifetime Achievement Award after he beat cancer in 2014. He also produced a documentary about legendary blues piano player and late friend Floyd Dixon, which won a Telly Award.
From his youth where he was aptly named Kid by James Harman, the James Harman Band was a blues act playing on the same ticket as punk rock bands like Black Flag, The Germs and Oingo Boingo. Kid played alongside the late legendary guitarist Hollywood Fats, honing his craft and learning to play with ferocity and energy that the punks could reason with. In Harman’s band, Kid was able to back up some of the architects of rock n roll like Little Richard’s sax player Lee Allen, and the original “The Twist” songwriter, Hank Ballard.
Kid joined The Fabulous Thunderbirds in 1995 through a recommendation to Kim Wilson by Canned Heat bassist Larry Taylor and drummer Richard “Big Foot” Innes. He stayed in the T-Birds until 2002. He notably played on the “Live” album in 2000, which was the first time a concert was broadcast over the internet using high-definition cameras.
Throughout his vast career he's played with and sat in with the likes of Big Joe Turner, Bo Diddley, Hank Ballard, Lester Butler, Hubert Sumlin, Gatemouth Brown, Todd Rundgren, David Johansen of New York Dolls, Los Lobos and once with Stevie Wonder.
